Laura - I was interested in this blog because it was an area I have been thinking of recently, thanks to a book I am reading, "The Acts of the Apostles" by William Barclay, and how it might relate to the Christian Science Church today.
I would like to list the main characteristics he puts forth, based on Acts 2:42-47 (pp 25-27)
(1) It was a LEARNING church. It's doctrine was active and not static.
(2) It was a Church of FELLOWSHIP. It had the great quality of "togetherness" and it was a "band of brothers".
(3) It was a PRAYING Church. They always spoke to God before speaking to men.
(4) It was a REVERENT Church. The Christians lived in reverence because they know that the whole earth is the temple of the living God.
(5) It was a Church WHERE THINGS HAPPENED. Signs and wonders followed.
(6) It was a SHARING Church. They had an intense feeling of responsibility for each other. A real Christian could not bear to have too much when others have too little.
(7) It was a WORSHIPPING Church. They never forgot to visit God's house.
(8) It was a HAPPY Church. Deep in the heart of every Christian there is the joy that no man taketh from us.
(9) It was a Church of PEOPLE WHOM OTHERS COULD NOT HELP LIKING. Real Christianity is a lovely thing.
I think these are the truer qualities of the early Christians, rather than social agendas. He was quite right in that "persecution" did not frighten the early Christians, but glued them together into a band of brothers and they looked after each other and would never have had to face the question of abortion or condemnation. They weren't perfect, but were striving to be better and holier.

Hey Laura. Yes, I do have facebook. Search for my name.. "Tim Crump". You should recognize the picture.
This is along the lines of being rebuked. I posted the link to that article on evolved friends on a Bible forum and got rebuked that it was unchristian.
I got accused of being New Age.
LOL
