Both sides are thinking the same thing

I loved this piece from the satirical Website The Onion:

Report: 60 Million People You'd Never Talk To Voting For Other Guy

It points out something I realized a couple weeks ago although I can hardly believe it—the "other side" of this political fracas probably thinks of me the same way I think of them. And it occurred to me that since they're wrong about me, I'm probably wrong about them.

So I started to think instead that maybe even if I disagree with half the country, I should at least be sure my own rhetoric is respectful of their right to their point of view. Come January, we're all going to have to figure out how to get along with each other again, after this highly divisive process. We're facing too many problems as a country to allow divisiveness to have the final say.

I am keeping my thought open to the universal nature of intelligence, that each and every person has intelligence as one of their inherent building blocks, and therefore every voter can respond to and make a decision based on the more reasonable arguments being put forth rather than knee-jerk reaction to emotion run amok.

Staying cool, calm and collected. Keeping our wits about us. Expressing savvy and becoming well-informed. These, to me, are essential in the coming weeks as we move toward election day. Meet heated argument with respectful reason, and let that do its work. We don't have to convince anyone. Acknowledge a person's native intelligence as you engage in dialog, and you may open the door for reason to take over.

Media reports notwithstanding, I believe in the truth of this statement: "Reason is the most active human faculty" (MBE). So, I want to acknowledge the presence of reason even when there only seems to be insanity.

Getting up to date

So it's been six months. Thought you might want to know where my head is at! (And how badly my grammar has devolved from not writing every day!)

In the spring, I had put my house on the market. And it didn't sell, and it didn't sell. I was feeling in limbo, and simply lost my will to write. It's hard to write a piece about what you're demonstrating spiritually when nothing that's happening in your life has any conclusion. I think I was in one long demonstration mode.

Eventually things began to happen, however. Definitive things. Like, it was revealed that a close family member has a health issue that suddenly commanded a great deal of attention. I don't want to get any more specific than that, although I hope I can find a way to write about what I've learned through that experience.

Because of the family situation, it didn't seem like it was time to pull up stakes and head west. However, and there's a neat story in here that I will tell specifically in the coming weeks, I was reassured by the Divine that nothing was going to stand in the way of my own progress. I began to get opportunities to work in film, right here in Massachusetts. In short, the time on the set reinforced my passion for film and wanting to get more involved in that industry.

The house sold in the middle of shooting the feature film, and I had to scramble to find a new place. We're now settled in a rental house in the same town that's actually bigger but cheaper than the prior place.

My book editing business continues fascinating, and some of the books are now being published so I'll be able to tell you about them.

I no longer take healing work, so if you're seeking for that kind of help, check out the links in the right column for some of my practitioner friends. Now, I'm just on my own journey, still with the same fundamental convictions but expressing them quietly and privately. Except on this blog, of course! And, I'm always available to get acquainted or to chat with anyone who'd like to share ideas. Feel free to be in touch any time.

So, is there anything in particular you'd like to talk about?

Back in the blogosphere

Hello! It's been just about six months, so that little break of mine extended a bit longer than originally anticipated. I thought I'd be blogging again once I sold my house and moved to LA, but things don't always go as planned!

I did sell my house, but moved to another part of Framingham, Mass., for the time being. Between March and now a whole bunch of stuff has happened, which I'll be blogging about. And, there's so much to write about what's happening in the world!

But most important, I've missed my bloggy friends. As Joni Mitchell sang, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."

I may not be blogging every day, and I also will not be sending out a daily notice as I did formerly, so if you want to follow along, please make this one of your favorites or subscribe via an RSS feed like bloglines.

More to come!
